The Ingffhaestian Federation, often nicknamed Ingffhaestia or the Federation, is an interplanetary nation that exists in the star system of Ingffhaestia (known to humans as Gliese 105). The Ingffhaestian Federation rules over all planets in its system as well as all planets in the Avimotalis and Heranis Systems, Ingffhaestia's companion solar systems. The Federation formed in 1180 as a voluntary union between each of the Ingffhaestian habitable worlds' planetary governments. This union was received well and supported by the public. Ingffhaestia experienced no significant historical developments for several centuries and existed in peace until 2000, when a noted far-right activist, Litia von Lucerna, staged a rebellion on the world of Uingffh and proclaimed large parts of its land independent. Ingffhaestia's military mobilized against this revolt, which ended in 2010 with Litia's arrest and subsequent suicide. In the 2040s, Ingffhaestia made contact with the human race of the Sol System and their nation, the Holy Empire of Kalgamania, through a once-derelict wormhole gate reactivated by the humans. Ingffhaestia and Kalgamania coexisted in peace until 2085, when Kalgamania, dissatisfied with Ingffhaestia's socialist ideologies, invaded Ingffhaestia, disbanded the Federation, and turned the entire system into one of its colonies, marking the end of the Federation's 905-year reign.
The Federation's most populous worlds are Ibiridius, Gula, Uingffh, Saringffh, Peris, Lapidot, Hevectavia, Digrazia, Sahariana, Rasaidor, Florazia, Olympia, Cornelia, Euphemia, and Galorra. Most of these worlds are habitable like Earth, but some of them are more exotic; Ibiridius, for instance, is unusual in that it is a rare instance of a non-Earth-like world that hosts life; the planet is an exotic, rapidly rotating, and large world where high gravity is only concentrated at the poles, Earth-like gravity exists near the equator, and a disk of breathable air thrown out by Ibiridius' fast spinning rate exists in orbit. Life inhabits both the surface and the atmosphere disk. Also among them are hydrocarbon-filled worlds resembling Saturn's moon Titan such as Hevectavia, Peris, and Lapidot, whose inhabitant life forms rely on methane and ethane rather than water. Digrazia is a moon that was terraformed by the Federation. Of the fifteen most inhabited worlds, Ibiridius, Uingffh, Hevectavia, Rasaidor, Florazia, and Cornelia have native civilizations; the rest are instead inhabited by colonists from said civilizations.
Ingffhaestia is widely said to be a socialist state, though the Federation's economy is actually mixed - while private industry is permitted in some sectors like entertainment, the Ingffhaestian government largely handles "essential" serves such as healthcare, education, food, etc. The Federation has a large and developed welfare system, with wealth gaps relatively minimal and the poor largely taken care of. Ingffhaestia values personal and political freedom, but tends to regulate businesses.
The Federation is less an actual nation and more a union of numerous nations similar to the real-life United Nations; aside from its economy, which is comprised significantly of state-owned industry, Ingffhaestia is a highly decentralized nation distributes much of its authority to the individual planets it controls. The Federation is ruled by a body of 15 individuals known as the Ingffhaestian Council who each represent the 15 inhabited planets, many of which are ruled by their own multi-representative councils themselves. Because the Federation is a union of several different races, its culture is very diverse. Tolerance of those deviant from the norm forms a major principle of Ingffhaestia, with the Federation and its citizens strongly looking down upon bigotry and discrimination.
The de-facto capital of the Federation is Yang-Moof City, which is a megacity located on Uingffh.

History[]
Formation (1180)[]
Before the Federation officially formed, each of its member planets were separate nations. Many of them had united into a single planetwide nation, though some still contained traces of nations as large provinces, as was the case of Uingffh with its 12 pseudo-nations.
Eventually, once all of the planets' civilizations had mastered spaceflight, representatives from each of the civilizations began meeting together and discussing politics and culture. This resulted in the formation of solar system-wide governments in each of Ingffhaestia's three component solar systems. These nations - the United Worlds of Ingffhaestia (UWI), the Avimotalis Union (AU), and the Heranian Federal Union (HFU) began interacting together by the 1100s after further developing their space travel technologies, exercising peaceful and friendly relations. Talks and proposals of unifying all three stellar authorities into a single federation began soon after, eventually culminating in the three nations voting in favor of unifying into the Ingffhaestian Federation on September 20, 1180.
Like its three predecessor nations, the Ingffhaestian Federation committed itself to democracy, installing a system where new representatives were elected every 5 Uingffhian years (a Uingffhian year is 300 Earth days). The Federation also respected each of the planets' political autonomy, adopting a rather decentralized system of government delegating most of its power to its member planets and moons. As a further reflection of this, the Ingffhaestian Federation had its executive branch, the Ingffhaestian Council, exist as a body of representatives as opposed to a single president, with one representative for each heavily populated planet and moon.
Despite this decentralization, practically all of the Federation's member worlds shared leftist beliefs, which quickly became apparent in the Ingffhaestian Federation's policies. As the Federation matured, its member worlds all fostered mixed economies with significant regulations on businesses and the wealthy. Though private industry was not completely outlawed, companies and people paid substantially higher taxes the more wealthy they were. The Federation clamped down on monopolies, breaking up large companies in order to limit their influence, protect small businesses, and encourage competition. Worker's rights were also championed, with the Federation's member worlds' legislatures passing laws protecting the right to strike, encouraging the formation of unions, raising minimum wage, and more. In addition, some member worlds experimented with universal basic income or similar systems. Welfare saw significant funding as well.
In addition, the Federation denounced discrimination against minorities as well as other species, both out of genuine care for their rights and out of a desire to keep the union between the worlds stable. Throughout the 1180s and 1190s, the Ingffhaestian legislature passed laws restricting hate speech, promoting representation in the workplace, education, and the media, and mandating education about other social groups in classrooms. Notably, however, the Federation never explicitly implemented affirmative action policies; many Ingffhaestian politicians, including the most progressive ones, opposed such policies not only for impeding the progress of people with merit, but also for only addressing social injustice at the surface rather than tackling it at its roots.
For the first 20 years after its formation, Ingffhaestia remained mostly peaceful, with its member worlds coexisting in relative peace and the public continuing to show its support for the union. Though some conflicts did occur, most were settled diplomatically and were usually limited to within a single planet or moon.
Planetary naming[]
With the formation of the Federation came the need to come to a consensus regarding the names of the Ingffhaestian System's various celestial bodies, as each of its member species had assigned their own names to celestial bodies thus leading to some objects having up to six names at once. The Federation's government and citizenry agreed that having a common set of names for the system's objects would help foster unity.
To this end, the Federation chose to pursue a policy of having a certain system's native inhabitants name their system's celestial objects. The planets and moons of the Avimotalis System proved the easiest to name, as only one sentient race was native to the system: the lortei. By just October 20, the Federation had agreed to establish the names for Avimotalis and its planets assigned by the lortei as the official names for said celestial objects.
Heranis, meanwhile, was home to two native civilizations: the sheepillies of the moon Hevectavia and the mordions of the planet Cornelia. Thankfully, the sheepillies and mordions, thanks to their friendly relationship, had already established a common set of names for each of the system's objects as the Heranian Federal Union prior to the Federation's formation. The Federation signed the star, planet, and moon names used by the HFU into law on November 1.
Ironically, the Ingffhaestian System, arguably the capital system of the Federation, proved the hardest to name; two civilizations - the ophisians and tabulons - called the system home and had not come to a consensus on celestial object names during their time as the United Worlds of Ingffhaestia. Debates over how to name the system's planets and moons continued for several weeks, with some arguments turning heated. Eventually, however, the three civilizations settled on having their homeworlds retain the names assigned by their respective societies, but having all other worlds adopt the names assigned by the tabulon race, as the ophisians had not yet achieved space travel while the tabulons were considered more influential. These names were signed into law on December 21, but some ophisians staged numerous peaceful, yet forceful protests in response, viewing the usage of tabulon names for the other Ingffhaestian worlds as discrimination against their species. Ultimately, only top government officials, military officials, astronomers, and other prestigious positions would use the "official" names for Ingffhaestia's planets and moons; ophisian citizens would continue calling the planets by their own names. The Federation made no move to stop them from doing so.
Gamilas Orbital Crisis (1200)[]
On September 8, 1199, tabulon astronomer Nictea Nalens discovered a rogue dwarf planet accelerating towards the Ingffhaestian System. Designating the object by the name of 5334118-Gamilas, Nalens discovered that the object's trajectory intersected with the Ingffhaestian System's Oort Cloud, which would likely result in increased comet impacts.
Nalens attempted to warn the rest of the Federation about the oncoming impact, but due to the highly decentralized nature of the Federation's government and economy, she faced extreme difficulty in doing so. In 1200, 5334118-Gamilas entered the Ingffhaestian Oort Cloud and disrupted the orbits of hundreds of comets, sending them onto trajectories towards the inner Ingffhaestian solar system. Though the outer gas giants helped deflect some of them, a total of 12 comets made it further into the system and impacted Ingffhaestian worlds. This catastrophic event, termed the Gamilas Orbital Crisis, claimed a total of 1.3 billion lives across the Ingffhaestian system's planets and moons.
Thankfully, none of the 12 comets were large enough to cause mass extinction events, but the exceptional destruction wrought by the event still incurred the Ingffhaestian Federation to pursue greater unity and cooperation between its member worlds. This included the strengthening of the federal government, the establishment of several government-funded astronomical organizations, the creation of the Ingffhaestia Emergency Message System, and a payment of $13.8 million to Nictea Nalens. The most significant change, however, was the establishment of the Ingffhaestian Congress, a national-level legislature. Though the Federation's planetary legislatures still enjoyed a variety of freedoms, more important matters like economics began being taken up by the Congress.
Discovery of the Kire Artifact (1389-1390)[]
On October 4, 1389, a pair of astronomers - the lortei Krezak Ravers and the mordion Centric Clurr - discovered a dwarf planet approaching the Avimotalis-Ingffhaestia binary on a highly eccentric orbit. This dwarf planet, dubbed "Kire" after a Cornelian god of judgment, was found not to pose any threat of impacting any inhabited worlds or destabilizing any comet regions.
However, Kire still piqued the interest of Ingffhaestian citizens due to its unusual shape; more precise imaging revealed the artifact possessed several large, erratically-shaped holes on its surface. Initially thought to be craters, these holes were later revealed as tunnels of some sort leading to some hollow center. Immediately after this discovery, the Ingffhaestian media erupted into a frenzy as citizens theorized Kire's erratic nature; some claimed that Kire was an alien artifact from a civilization outside of Ingffhaestia.
To investigate further, the Ingffhaestian Council agreed to send a fleet of 7 Ingffhaestian ships to Kire's location on November 14 of that year. Upon their arrival at Kire on December 24, they confirmed Kire's nature as an artificial object; specifically, they revealed Kire as a hollow spheroidal object with a radius of roughly 1950 kilometers. This sent the Ingffhaestian media into yet another frenzy, with many citizens and news outlets generating a multitude of (mostly unfounded) theories on the object's origin; in response, the Council authorized the fleet's crew to conduct landing operations on Kire in order to further ascertain its nature.
Landing operations officially began on January 1, 1390; the crew of the 7 ships, led by tabulon captain Erraia Mon Mavers, reported a mostly flat surface dotted by derelict structures resembling buildings and antennae, all of which had a composition of various high-grade steels. After a few hours, however, they stumbled upon a larger structure which they chose to explore further; this turned out to be Kire's "control room".
By then, analysis of both the control room and the other structures had traced the structure's origins to the archteotabulons, an ancient civilization that had existed on the Federation-controlled world of Uingffh before dying out approximately 2-3 billion years ago. Though this mollified the Ingffhaestia populace for some time, media and scientists alike regained their fervor when Mavers' crew managed to reactivate the Kire's electrical systems.
On Kire's control panel, only a single large button remained operational; the Council authorized the crew to press it on January 4. The pressing of the button led to a buildup of heat inside of the Kire. The eventual result was a sphere emanating heat comparable to a small star. At the time, both Mavers and the Council deemed this function as interesting, but not particularly useful, so they disregarded and deactivated it shortly after collecting the necessary scientific data. Erraia Mon Mavers and her fleet exited Kire on January 10 and returned to Uingffh on February 23.
As debates over possible uses of the Kire emerged, the Ingffhaestian Federation agreed to prioritize moving Kire to a more stable orbit in order to prevent damage and ensure further study. Throughout the rest of 1390, the Federation worked to install large thrusters on the Kire in the hopes of adjusting its orbit into one that would take it directly around Ingffhaestia. This operation proved successful; by the end of 1390, the thrusters had allowed Kire to settle into a trojan orbit with the outermost planet Orania, residing in its L4 point.
Digrazia Terraformation Project (1400-1900)[]
Beginning in 1394, a pair of squirmlian astronomers named Oktavia Okula and Syphone Azlia began pushing forth a proposal for utilizing the Kire: using its heat to artificially terraform an icy planet or moon in the Ingffhaestian System. Support for this proposal quickly grew; while some Ingffhaestians applauded the idea of creating life from nothing, others saw the creation of a terraformed world as an ideal opportunity for the various civilizations of Ingffhaestia to unite and work towards a common good. Some Ingffhaestian environmentalists, however, questioned the ethics of such a project, which would significantly interfere with the Digrazian natural environment. Astronomers quelled these concerns by confirming the lack of any native life on the moon; nonetheless, the Federation agreed not to pursue any other terraformations unless absolutely necessary.
With support for terraformation almost unanimous, Oktavia, Syphone, and other Ingffhaestians set about searching for an ideal target for terraformation. They deliberated and debated for several years, but they eventually settled on Digrazia, the largest moon of the ice giant Orania, in 1398. Digrazia presented an ideal target for several reasons - for one, Kire's shared orbit with Orania would make transporting it to an orbit around Digrazia quick and efficient. Secondly, the moon not only was of sufficient size to retain an atmosphere for long periods of time, but also contained large amounts of water trapped in ice, which would make terraformation simpler. Thirdly, Digrazia's location at the edge of the Ingffhaestian System would make it an ideal embassy between Ingffhaestia and Avimotalis; inhabitants of the Heranis System could reach it easily, too.
With that, the Ingffhaestian government voted to initiate the Digrazia Terraformation Project in 1400. This began with the relocation of Kire to a close orbit around Digrazia, which was possible thanks to its far orbit around Orania. Afterwards, the Ingffhaestians activated the Kire's artificial star property, allowing Digrazia's temperature to increase over the course of a few years. This resulted in the ice on its surface melting into small water lakes. By around 1411, Digrazia's bodies of water had enlarged into oceans while the melting of the ice released water vapor and other gases, resulting in the beginnings of an atmosphere.
By the beginning of the 1500s, Digrazia had stabilized into an ocean world; at this point, Ingffhaestia had prepared to strip mine various minor asteroids and use them to create artificial landmasses on the moon. Before then, however, the Federation sent a group of xenobiologists onto the newly-oceanified world to check for any native lifeforms that may have been uncovered by the melting of the ice. They found none; they also found no evidence of past life that may have gone extinct due Digrazia's terraformation. Thus, the Federation continued the terraformation project and unloaded rock mined from the asteroids onto the moon, creating artificial continents.
Finally, the Federation populated Digrazia with various imported lifeforms in order to create a biosphere and, in the process, oxygen. Debates took place over which planets and moons in the system they should import life from; in the end, they decided to import life from every life-bearing world in the Ingffhaestian star system (save for Hevectavia, Peris, and Lapidot, as none of their hydrocarbon-based lifeforms could survive in Digrazia's water-based environment) as an experiment to see how they would interact as well as to reinforce Digrazia's purpose as a symbol of unity between the Ingffhaestian races. This experiment proved highly successful; the introduction of so many different lifeforms led to the creation of a unique Digrazian biosphere and even entirely new species of life as the different lifeforms competed, interacted, and ultimately evolved to better fit their new environment.
The Federation deemed Digrazia fully habitable by the 18th century. However, the terraformation project was still considered incomplete; the Federation still faced the task of actually building settlements and infrastructure on the moon. The final 200 years of the terraformation project were spent establishing colonies, cities, etc. on Digrazia. Private citizens moving to Digrazia performed most of these tasks, but the government also aided colonization efforts. By 1900, Digrazia had become a developed, prosperous colony world with a growing population of 5.4 billion Ingffhaestians of various species.
Despite the success of Digrazia, minute criticism of the terraformation project persisted - this time from members of the Sheepilly species, Ingffhaestia's only non-water-based species. Thoughout the project, numerous Sheepillies expressed their dissatisfaction over the fact that Digrazia was made into a water world and not a hydrocarbon world like their homeworld of Hevectavia. Thankfully, however, the Federation listened to their critiques and installed several large domes on Digrazia, inside of which existed contained hydrocarbon environments for sheepillies to live in, throughout the rest of the 20th century. Though some criticism prevailed, this move quelled most Sheepilly criticism of the Digrazia project.
Digrazia's terraformation would later serve as a model for the Garmageddon Sovereignty's own mass terraformations, though Garmageddon's terraformations took place over far shorter timescales due to its more advanced technology.
Discovery of the Thegasia Wormhole Gate (1945)[]
On November 5, 1945, an Ingffhaestian ship captained by tabulon Rimuru Nesme Atlas patrolling the outer reaches of the Heranis System discovered an object in a high orbit around the dwarf star. Later imaging and analysis revealed this object to be another anomalous object similar in nature to Kire.
The Federation authorized Atlas to investigate this new object two days later, sending a few more ships to accompany Atlas'. Upon their arrival, they discovered not a hollowed spheroid like Kire, but a ring-shaped object approximately 500 kilometers in diameter. Initially speculated to be some form of ring habitat like a Bishop Ring, landing parties sent onto the ring found no structures on its surface suggesting a residential nature. They did, however, confirm a similar composition and architecture to the Kire. Shorty after, they dubbed the artifact Thegasia as a nod to an old Uingffhian legend that identified the gate to Naitahlawulak (the tabulons' version of heaven) as a ring called Thegasia.
Eventually, on November 14, one landing party chanced upon this ring object's control room; like Kire's, Thegasia's control room contained one major button. A press of the button, however, led to a sudden collapse of matter within the ring, culminating in the generation of what scientists concluded to be some form of black hole or wormhole. Because Ingffhaestian society held deep superstitions and anxieties over wormhole technology due to its alleged role in the downfall of the archeotabulons (later revealed to be the Drori), the Council immediately ordered Atlas and the crew to deactivate the Thegasia, though the crew had actually deactivated it by themselves beforehand due to themselves submitting to such superstitions.
Following this revelation regarding the Thegasia artifact (now designated the Thegasia Wormhole Gate), the Thegasia became viewed as an object of taboo among Ingffhaestians. Though the federal government made no move to actually ban individuals from travelling there on the basis of civil rights, practically no one dared to venture to the artifact regardless due to the extreme superstitions surrounding wormhole technology; some individuals went as far as to blame Thegasia itself for bringing about the demise of the archeotabulons, though later research revealed that they actually constructed Thegasia after the cataclysmic wormhole accident.
Some particularly fundamentalist individuals petitioned for the Ingffhaestian Council to authorize the military to destroy the Thegasia Wormhole Gate. However, both the Council and the citizenry at large opposed this move; though they remained suspicious and apprehensive towards its technology, they were also hesitant to erase one of the few surviving traces of the archeotabulon civilization. Ultimately, the Thegasia artifact would allow interactions between the Ingffhaestians and the humans in the mid-21st century.
Litia Von Lucerna's Rebellion (2000-2010)[]
Main Article: Litia's Rebellion (LVL's Urlum The Usurper)

Litia von Lucerna, the ruler of the Lucernal Hegemony and the instigator of Litia's Rebellion
On March 8, 2000, the Ingffhaestian Council voted in favor of of codifying marriage equality, gender transitioning, and other pro-LGBTQ+ policies into federal law. This policy angered residents of the socially-conservative province of Kelargar on the planet Uingffh, especially noted right-wing political commentator Litia von Lucerna.
A few months later, fe (Litia was a somale, a third sex unique to the tabulon species that uses fe/fir pronouns) staged a massive insurrection at the Kelargan governmental building.

However, after being notified of the rebellion, the Federation deployed the Order of Novus onto Uingffh to launch a counter-revolution against Litia. This effort was successful, with Litia surrendering in 2010, but 16.7 million had already been killed by then. Fe was then exiled onto an abandoned station in the gas giant planet Azure, where Litia committed suicide shortly after. Litia's reign of terror was often cited as the worst event in Ingffhaestian Federation history, though it would soon be overshadowed by the war against the Earth-Kalgamanian Empire in 2084 and the formation of the Imperial Sovereignty of Garmageddon in 2105.
Human Era (2040-2084)[]
In 2040, a ship emerged from the Thegasia wormhole artifact, sending Ingffhaestian society into a frenzy. Quick analysis of the ship revealed that its architecture and technology matched neither the archeotabulons nor any other society in the Ingffhaestian system, leading researchers to conclude that the ship represented an entirely new civilization yet unknown to Ingffhaestians.
Federation ships rushed to make contact with the ship while acting as peacefully as possible to prevent the accidental incitement of an interstellar war. The ship's occupants, also peaceful, identified themselves as members of the human race, who lived on planet Earth under a nation known as the Holy Empire of Earth-Kalgamania. This marked the first time the Ingffhaestians have made contact with an extra-Ingffhaestian race.
The Uingffhian continent of Neo Gaia.
Thanks to devices created by the Federation with the ability to instantly translate different languages based on brain waves, the humans and the Ingffhaestians communicated with ease; over the next few decades, the humans and the Ingffhaestian Federation attended meetings where they shared each others' culture, biology, politics, etc. The Federation permitted the humans to set up a settlement on the Uingffhian island continent of Flornelia, which the humans then renamed to New Earth. However, the Federation made sure that native ecosystems were not harmed by the Neo Gaians.
Earth-Kalgamania and Ingffhaestia coexisted peacefully up until 2084. That year, political tension began to rise due to their differing ideologies - the humans were a far right-wing power while the Ingffhaestian Federation, as stated before, was largely leftist. It became known that the Earth-Kalgamanian Empire was discriminating against minorities such as people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, women, disabled people, etc., which the Ingffhaestians did not condone. This conflict quickly escalated to human-Ingffhaestian domestic violence. Soon, Earth-Kalgamania officially declared war on the Federation in 2084. Unusually enough, the Neo Gaian residents decided to ally with the Ingffhaestian Federation rather than fight for their homeland. It was later revealed that this was because the Neo Gaians were actually exiles from the empire who were deported onto Uingffh, and the humans decided to cover it up in order to avoid political tension.
