Deseret is a state in the western United States. It is the second largest U.S. state by both area (after Alaska) and the largest state in population. Deseret shares borders with Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming to the East, Idaho and Oregon to the North, Arizona to the south, and California to the West. Deseret is the most densely populated state, with over 3 million people alone living on the Pacific ocean cities. Most of Deseret's urban development is concentrated in cities along the Pacific, and Near the Great Salt Lake and SLC.
The territory that makes up Deseret has been settled for thousands of years, including the ancient Puebloans, the Navajo, and the Ute. The Spanish were the first Europeans to arrive in the mid-16th century, though the region's difficult geography and climate made it a peripheral part of New Spain and later Mexico. Even while it was part of Mexico, many of Deseret's earliest settlers were American, particularly Mormons fleeing marginalization and persecution from the United States. Following the Mexican-American War, it became part of the Deseret Territory, which shared similar borders as it's modern day borders. The peoples of the territory petitioned for statehood, and the territory was accepted as a state and was admitted into the Union on June 19, 1849 as the 31st state.
More than half of Deseret's population is Mormon, the vast majority of whom are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which has its world headquarters in Salt Lake City.
The state has a highly diversified economy, with major sectors including transportation, education, information technology and research, government services, and mining and a major tourist destination for outdoor recreation. In 2013, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated that the state had the fastest population growth in the US.

History[]
The land that makes up Deseret has been settled by Native American tribes for thousands of years before it was settled. In the Mid 1840s, Mormons escaping religious discrimination settled in Deseret, as it wasnt an official territory of the US at that point. A short time after, Deseret was made an official territory of the US during Manifest Destiny. The inhabitants of the territory started to petition for statehood in 1849, and sent a delegate to congress to get Deseret statehood. Congress accepted, and Deseret was made the 31st state on June 19, 1849. Deseret's overall size and peace drew many Citizens and Businesses to Deseret, starting an economic boom that continued for years. Deseret remained mostly peaceful during the civil war, with only one battle happening, which was a union victory. Deseret continued to grow in Population, with Salt Lake City becoming a metropolis by 1870. During the Great Depression, many businesses left Deseret, and it's economy slumped for the rest of the 1930's. Deseret eventually recovered, and prospered once again. Deseret was rated as the happiest state in 1990, and keeps that title to this very day.
